Terra / Artemis OS
Artemis Software Engineer
Initial focus / Ground Systems & Perception
Develop the sensing and perception software that turns observations into information operators and autonomous platforms can act on.
- Location
- Abuja, Nigeria · On-site
- Type
- Full-time
- Team
- Engineering
About the role
You will develop software for the sensing and perception capabilities of Terra’s Artemis OS ecosystem. The work spans sensor integration, real-time processing, tracking, localisation and the systems that turn observations into information that operators and autonomous platforms can act on.
You will write production software, work directly with hardware and validate it on deployed ground systems.
What you will do
- Develop software to acquire, synchronise, calibrate and process data from radar, cameras, LiDAR, inertial sensors and other sensing hardware.
- Build perception, detection, tracking, localisation and state-estimation components, including the interfaces that connect them to the rest of Artemis OS.
- Combine observations across sensors into consistent representations of objects, movement and the surrounding environment.
- Develop and maintain the software interfaces between sensing devices, onboard compute, operator tools and downstream autonomous systems.
- Improve latency, throughput and reliability on edge hardware, accounting for uncertain measurements, dropped data and constrained compute.
- Test against recorded data, simulation and real equipment; investigate faults from raw measurements through to system-level behaviour.
What we are looking for
- Strong systems programming in C++ or Rust, with Python for prototyping, data analysis, tooling or tests.
- Experience building production software involving perception, robotics, sensing, signal processing or other data-intensive physical systems.
- Sound understanding of Linux, concurrency, software interfaces, timing and performance constraints.
- Ability to debug across devices, data streams, algorithms and distributed software components.
- Evidence of testing software against real data or hardware, measuring failures and improving reliability.
Nice to have
- Experience building robotics, sensing, perception or real-time software used outside a purely simulated environment.
- Familiarity with radar, LiDAR, EO/IR cameras, IMUs, GNSS or similar sensors, including their integration and data-processing characteristics.
- Experience with detection, object tracking, localisation, mapping, state estimation or sensor fusion in practical applications.
- Understanding of probabilistic estimation, Kalman-family filters, measurement uncertainty or multi-target tracking.
- Experience with sensor calibration, timestamp alignment, coordinate transformations and combining measurements from different sources.
- Familiarity with robotics middleware, device interfaces and communication between sensing hardware, edge computers and other software services.
- Experience with embedded Linux, NVIDIA Jetson, GPU-assisted processing or deployment to resource-constrained computing platforms.
- Exposure to computer vision, point-cloud processing, radar signal processing, SLAM or geospatial software.
- Experience validating algorithms against recorded datasets, simulation and field measurements, including noisy, missing or conflicting observations.
- Hands-on work on robotics, autonomous platforms, distributed sensors or other hardware-integrated systems deployed in the field.
Technical experience
We value strong software fundamentals and practical experience with sensing systems. Familiarity with every technology below is not required.
- Programming
- C++ or Rust; Python for scripting, prototyping, testing and analysis. Concurrency, multithreading, memory and performance-conscious development.
- Compute & OS
- Linux, embedded Linux, ARM-based compute, NVIDIA Jetson, GPU acceleration and edge deployment.
- Sensors & perception
- Radar, LiDAR, EO/IR cameras, IMUs, GNSS, computer vision and point-cloud processing.
- Estimation
- Kalman filters, probabilistic methods, object tracking, localisation, mapping, sensor fusion and SLAM.
- Integration
- ROS 2, DDS, device drivers, middleware, time synchronisation, coordinate transforms and streaming interfaces.
- Libraries
- OpenCV, Eigen, PCL, CUDA and comparable numerical or perception software.
- Test & development
- Git, CMake, Docker, automated tests, simulation, profiling, recorded-data analysis and field validation.
Compensation and benefits
- Flexible working hours within an on-site role in Abuja.
- 30 days annual leave.
How we hire
- Intro call with the hiring team — what you have built, what you want to build next.
- Technical conversation with the engineers or operators you would work alongside.
- A practical exercise drawn from real work, scoped to a few hours.
- Final conversation with a founder on mission, ownership and how we operate.
