Terra / Artemis OS
Artemis Software Engineer
Initial focus / Vehicle Systems & Autonomy
Build software for unmanned vehicles operating within Artemis OS, across aircraft, rovers and future platforms.
- Location
- Abuja, Nigeria · On-site
- Type
- Full-time
- Team
- Engineering
About the role
You will build software for unmanned vehicles operating within Artemis OS, Terra’s shared robotics ecosystem. The work spans vehicle control, autonomy, communications and onboard computing across aircraft, rovers and future platforms.
You will work directly with hardware, write production code and see it through simulation, integration and field trials.
What you will do
- Develop vehicle-side and supporting software for command, telemetry, navigation, mission execution and autonomous behaviour.
- Integrate flight controllers, companion computers, payloads and other vehicle hardware with the wider Artemis OS ecosystem.
- Build interfaces that work across different vehicle types rather than tying core functionality to one platform or autopilot.
- Handle real operating conditions: intermittent links, uncertain vehicle state, timing constraints, faults and recovery.
- Test software in simulation and on hardware, investigate telemetry and logs, and support ground and flight trials.
- Work with perception, communications and platform engineers to take capabilities from prototype to repeatable deployment.
What we are looking for
- Strong systems programming in C++ or Rust, with Python for development, tooling or testing.
- Experience building software that interacts with robots, vehicles, embedded devices or other physical systems.
- Good understanding of Linux, concurrency, networking, state management and reliable software interfaces.
- Ability to debug across application code, firmware, hardware and communications links.
- Evidence of shipping and testing working software; sound judgement about safety and failure handling.
Nice to have
- Experience developing or integrating software for unmanned vehicles, robotics platforms, autonomous systems or hardware-connected applications.
- Familiarity with vehicle-control architectures, navigation software and interfaces between onboard computers, controllers, sensors and external systems.
- Experience building middleware, platform adapters or software interfaces that connect components across hardware and software boundaries.
- Understanding of communication interfaces such as TCP/UDP, serial and CAN, including timing, message delivery and recovery from link failures.
- Experience with Linux-based embedded systems, onboard computers or deploying software to resource-constrained hardware.
- Exposure to motion planning, autonomous navigation, state estimation, control systems or coordination between multiple vehicles.
- Experience with software-in-the-loop, hardware-in-the-loop or vehicle-in-the-loop testing, simulation and field integration.
- Ability to trace complex faults across networking, configuration, system state, software and physical hardware.
- Familiarity with ROS 2 or comparable robotics middleware, flight-control software or open robotics ecosystems.
- Hands-on work on robotic vehicles, autonomous projects or systems validated outside the lab.
Technical experience
Strong software fundamentals and practical systems experience matter more than familiarity with every tool listed below. Experience in some of these areas is valuable; mastery of all is not expected.
- Programming
- C++ or Rust; Python for scripting, automation, testing and analysis. Concurrency, asynchronous programming and performance-conscious development.
- Compute & OS
- Linux, embedded Linux, ARM-based computing, onboard and companion computers, NVIDIA Jetson.
- Integration
- Device interfaces, middleware, hardware abstraction, IPC, serialization and modular software design.
- Networking
- TCP/UDP, serial communication, CAN, telemetry transport and fault-tolerant connections.
- Robotics
- Robot control, navigation, state estimation, motion planning, ROS 2 and related middleware.
- Test & deploy
- SIL, HIL, VIL, Gazebo or similar simulators, automated integration testing and field validation.
- Development
- Git, CMake, Docker, CI/CD, debugging, profiling and Linux command-line tooling.
Compensation and benefits
- Flexible working hours within an on-site role in Abuja.
- 30 days annual leave.
How we hire
- Intro call with the hiring team — what you have built, what you want to build next.
- Technical conversation with the engineers or operators you would work alongside.
- A practical exercise drawn from real work, scoped to a few hours.
- Final conversation with a founder on mission, ownership and how we operate.
