About the role
The Systems Integration & Test Technician executes the final assembly, subsystem integration, firmware flashing, and hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) validation for autonomous platforms. This role bridges physical mechanical/electrical assembly with software execution on ArtemisOS, ensuring every unit is field-ready prior to deployment.
This is a full-time, early to mid-level role in Assembly & Testing Operations, on-site at PAX-1 in Abuja and reporting to the Head of Manufacturing.
What you will do
- Assemble and integrate propulsion systems (brushless motors, ESCs, engine drivers), power distribution systems, radio links, and sensor payloads onto airframes and ground chassis.
- Route, secure, and test custom electrical wiring harnesses, RF coaxial cables, and high-current power distribution lines.
- Flash firmware updates and configure control parameters on onboard computing units running ArtemisOS.
- Perform benchtop testing, hardware calibration, sensor alignment (IMU, GPS, LiDAR, optical cameras), and ground burn-in runs.
- Troubleshoot, isolate, and repair complex electrical, mechanical, and communication signal faults on assembly units.
- Log all test measurements, sensor telemetry logs, power draw metrics, and build deviations into internal build records.
- Participate in pre-flight tethered/untethered testing and field test operations alongside flight test engineers.
What we are looking for
- Higher National Diploma (HND), B.Sc., or B.Eng. in Mechatronics, Electrical, Avionics, or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
- 2+ years of practical experience in electro-mechanical assembly, fault isolation, soldering, and wire harness fabrication.
- Demonstrated experience with unmanned systems (UAVs, UGVs, RC platforms), flight controllers (PX4, ArduPilot), or industrial robotics.
- Proficiency using bench electronics tools (digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, bench power supplies, logic analyzers).
- High dexterity, acute attention to detail, and strict adherence to ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) and hardware safety protocols.
How we hire
- Intro call with the hiring team — what you have built, what you want to build next.
- Technical conversation with the engineers or operators you would work alongside.
- A practical exercise drawn from real work, scoped to a few hours.
- Final conversation with a founder on mission, ownership and how we operate.
